WAHT IS DIABETES?
Diabetes is a chronic condition that affects how your body uses sugar (glucose), which is an important source of energy. In diabetes, high blood sugar levels can lead to various health problems, including heart disease, kidney damage, nerve damage, and vision issues. Managing diabetes involves monitoring blood sugar levels, following a healthy diet, exercising, and taking medications as needed.
There are two main types:
Type 1 Diabetes: The body doesn't produce insulin, a hormone that helps glucose enter cells for energy. This type usually develops in children or young adults and requires lifelong insulin therapy.
Type 2 Diabetes: The body either becomes resistant to insulin or doesn’t produce enough of it. This type is more common and is often related to factors like obesity, inactivity, and family history. It can sometimes be managed with lifestyle changes, oral medications, or insulin.
